Full Description

A 78-year-old pensioner from Slough, Raymond Rackley, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a series of child sex offences committed in the 1990s. Rackley, residing on Pennine Road in Slough, Berkshire, was found guilty at Reading Crown Court of multiple serious sexual crimes against a young boy.

The convictions encompassed three counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault, and two counts of inciting a boy to commit an act of gross indecency. These offences took place during the 1990s, highlighting the long-term impact of historical child sexual abuse cases. Rackley was interviewed by Thames Valley Police in March 2023 and again in December 2024, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial.

The sentencing occurred last Wednesday at Reading Crown Court, where the judge imposed the 18-year custodial sentence, reflecting the gravity of the crimes. Detective Constable Teranjeet Finn from Thames Valley Police commended the victim's courage in reporting the abuse and speaking out. In a statement, she said: "I hope that Raymond Rackley's sentence gives him a sense of justice for what he did to the victim as a child." She further emphasised the force's commitment, stating: "Thames Valley Police takes sexual offences against children very seriously, whether this is a recent offence or something which has happened many years ago."

This case underscores the importance of pursuing justice for historical sexual offences, with Thames Valley Police encouraging anyone with information or who has been a victim to come forward. The conviction provides closure for the victim after decades of suffering from the abuse inflicted by Rackley.
