Full Description

Asuk Hussain, a 53-year-old man from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following his conviction for sexually assaulting a young girl. The case was heard at Leeds Crown Court, where Hussain was found guilty of taking advantage of the victim's vulnerability for his own sexual gratification.

According to West Yorkshire Police, Hussain had noticed the victim in her school uniform prior to the attack. He exploited her situation when she required somewhere to stay, leading to the sexual assault. The incident formed part of a broader investigation known as Operation Tourway, a multi-year probe by West Yorkshire Police into the non-recent sexual exploitation of young females in North Kirklees. This sentencing marks Hussain as the 26th man convicted and imprisoned under this operation.

Detective Chief Inspector Oliver Coates of West Yorkshire Police commented on the case, stating: "Leeds Crown Court heard that Asuk Hussain was aware of his victim’s vulnerability and took full advantage of her for his own sexual gratification." He further noted the ordeal the victim endured during the trial but expressed hope that she could find some satisfaction in the outcome. Coates also highlighted Hussain's previous conviction, having been found guilty of raping a victim who was only 13 years old in an incident that occurred in the Kirklees area in 2004.

The sentencing took place on Friday, 12 July 2024, as reported by BBC News on 15 July 2024. This case underscores ongoing efforts by West Yorkshire Police to address historical sexual exploitation in the region, with related operations resulting in numerous convictions of sexual predators.
