Pauline Carr

Pauline Carr, a 72-year-old woman from Peterborough, has been convicted and imprisoned for her role in the ill-treatment of a young boy during the 2000s. Her offences were uncovered as part of a broader investigation into sexual abuse perpetrated by Robert Wiles, her daughter's former partner, and were prosecuted by Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

The ill-treatment of the young boy involved Carr acting alongside Wiles, contributing to the suffering of the child. While Wiles was primarily convicted of multiple sexual offences against a young girl, Carr's involvement was specifically in the ill-treatment charge. The crimes surfaced in December 2018 following a report from one of Wiles's victims, which prompted a thorough police investigation leading to charges against both individuals.

Carr, of Wildlake, Orton Malborne, Peterborough, faced Peterborough Crown Court alongside Wiles and was found guilty of one count of ill-treatment of a child. On 25 March 2024, she was sentenced to two years and three months in prison. Detective Constable Annette Renwick of Cambridgeshire Constabulary described Carr's actions as “despicable behaviour towards a child and caused suffering no child should endure.” The sentencing highlighted the joint responsibility in the abuse and the lasting trauma inflicted on the victims.

The case emphasises the collaborative nature of some child abuse offences and the accountability of all involved parties. DC Renwick praised the victims' strength: “They have both shown great courage and strength to come forward with their complaints to support police with a prosecution and then appear in court to give evidence.” This conviction serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to bring historical abusers to justice.
