Offence Summary

Slamet Nazir, together with Alyas Hussain, carried out a brutal joint rape, sexual assault, and beating of a woman in Luton, involving severe violence and resulting in his placement on the Sex Offenders Register.

Full Description

On 3 March 2020, a woman endured a terrifying joint assault by Slamet Nazir and Alyas Hussain on Hockwell Ring in Luton, Bedfordshire. The perpetrators raped and sexually assaulted her, inflicting beatings with an object that left her in severe distress. Her screams prompted a member of the public to contact Bedfordshire Police, who arrived to rescue her from the scene.

Bedfordshire Police's investigation, headed by Detective Sergeant Clare Gilbert, uncovered the full extent of the depravity involved. Gilbert remarked that the violence and fear inflicted were among the most extreme she had witnessed. Nazir was directly involved in the sexual assaults, with the attack demonstrating profound contempt for the victim.

At Luton Crown Court, on 17 February 2021, Nazir, 38 from Luton, and his co-defendant were convicted by a jury of rape, assault by penetration, and wounding with intent. Sentencing Judge Her Honour Judge Herbert labelled the incident an 'appalling, brutal joint attack,' emphasising the offenders' disrespect. Nazir was jailed for 15 years and mandated to join the Sex Offenders Register.

Post-sentencing, Detective Sergeant Gilbert thanked the witnesses whose compelling evidence dismantled the offenders' fabrications, underscoring Bedfordshire Police's commitment to prosecuting sexual offences. The case highlighted the force's resolve in supporting victims and ensuring justice.
