Full Description

David Heathcote, a 60-year-old man from Harriseahead, Kidsgrove, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 10 December 2025, following his guilty plea to several serious child sexual offences committed in July 2025.

The offences, which involved online interactions with children, included two counts of sexual communications with a child, two counts of arranging to facilitate the commission of a child sex offence through grooming behaviour with a significant age disparity, two counts of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, two counts of causing a child to watch sexual activity, and two counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. These actions demonstrated a pattern of predatory behaviour targeting vulnerable minors.

Staffordshire Police investigated the case, leading to Heathcote's arrest and subsequent prosecution. Detective Constable James McMillan from the public protection unit commented on the importance of reporting such crimes, stating: “Reporting child sexual abuse can feel daunting, but we have specially trained officers waiting to help victims and seek justice for them when they are ready.” He further emphasised the force's commitment: “We're working tirelessly in Staffordshire to proactively target those engaging in sexual communication with children online and to safeguard survivors.”

In addition to his custodial sentence of four years and one month, Heathcote was issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting 15 years to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public. The case underscores ongoing efforts by Staffordshire Police to combat child sexual exploitation in the region.
