Offence Summary

Taranvir Galsinh, a 45-year-old man from Sunderland, raped and sexually assaulted two underage girls aged 14 and 12, paying them for sexual acts and attempting to strangle one victim.

Full Description

Taranvir Galsinh, a 45-year-old resident of Sunderland in the North East of England, was convicted of multiple serious sexual offences against two underage girls. The crimes, which involved rape, sexual assault, and exploitation, came to light through investigations by Durham Constabulary.

Galsinh targeted a 14-year-old girl, taking her to a hotel where he raped and sexually assaulted her, subsequently paying her for engaging in sexual activity. He further assaulted her on several occasions in a car and, in one incident, attempted to strangle her. In a separate case, Galsinh raped a 12-year-old girl and forced her to participate in sexual activity inside his vehicle before paying her. These acts demonstrated a pattern of predatory behaviour towards vulnerable minors.

Galsinh appeared at Durham Crown Court in July 2025, where he pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including rape of a girl aged 13 to 15, two counts of rape of a child under 13, intentional strangulation, three counts of paying for sexual services of a girl, sexual assault of a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and assault by penetration of a child. The court proceedings highlighted the severity of his actions and the profound impact on the victims.

On his return to Durham Crown Court the following week, in December 2025, Galsinh was sentenced to 11 years and three months' imprisonment. Additionally, he was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and lifetime restraining orders prohibiting contact with both victims. Detective Constable Hanna Liddle of Durham Constabulary described the case as a 'horrific ordeal' for the girls, stating: 'This was a horrific ordeal for these girls and the consequences of Galsinh’s actions will be felt for the rest of their lives. What he did is unforgiveable.' She praised the victims' bravery and expressed hope that justice would allow them to move forward.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts by Durham Constabulary to combat child sexual exploitation in the region, with Chronicle Live reporting on the sentencing as a significant step in protecting young people from such predators.
