Offence Summary

Alfie Wise strangled and raped a woman he met on a night out in Bournemouth, leaving her with a severe neck fracture. He was convicted at Bournemouth Crown Court and jailed for six years and nine months.

Full Description

A despicable attack unfolded after a night out in Bournemouth when Alfie Wise, a 22-year-old man from Poole, met a woman in her late teens through mutual friends on Saturday, August 27, 2024. The pair, along with others, returned to an address in Poole the following morning, where Wise subjected the woman to a violent sexual assault.

During the assault, Wise raped the woman and intentionally strangled her, resulting in a severe fracture to her thyroid cartilage, which protects the vocal cords. The victim reported the offences to the police later that day and received support from The Shores Sexual Assault Referral Centre and an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor.

Following a detailed investigation by Dorset Police, Wise was arrested and charged. He denied the allegations of rape, sexual assault, and assault by penetration, leading to a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court. Wise had previously pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation. On Friday, April 17, 2025, he was found guilty on the remaining charges and sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.

Detective Constable Tasha Beaufils of BCP CID commended the victim's courage, stating: “We have carried out a detailed investigation to compile evidence and build a case against Alfie Wise. However, it was the courage of the victim in coming forward and giving evidence at court, that helped to ensure we were able to secure a conviction so he could be held to account for his despicable offending.”

Wise, a British national of white British nationality, was held accountable for his actions in a case that highlighted the severe impact of sexual violence.
