Offence Summary

Wally-Sanneh, a 22-year-old man from Bradford, was jailed for 48 weeks after committing multiple unprovoked assaults, including a sexual assault on a female prison officer, and ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years.

Full Description

A 22-year-old man from Bradford, Wally-Sanneh, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for a series of violent and harassing offences committed between late 2023 and early 2025. The court heard that his actions were influenced by his mental health issues and heavy cannabis use, though doctors noted an improvement in his condition after nearly 12 months on remand.

Prosecutor Tayo Dasaolu outlined the offences, which included sexual assault, common assault, criminal damage, and racially aggravated harassment. On December 6, 2023, Wally-Sanneh sexually assaulted a female prison officer by cupping her breast over her clothing, leaving her feeling 'dirty, vulnerable, and degraded,' as she reported to the court.

  • On January 28, 2024, he threw a liquid that smelled like urine at a man and a woman outside their workplace in Bradford city centre. The victims, who attended hospital for eye drops and anti-bacterial mouthwash, described the liquid's smell and colour as indicative of urine, though the Crown could not confirm it definitively.
  • On October 16, 2024, he committed criminal damage by throwing a concrete slab through the front window of a property, claiming he 'had beef' with the unknown victim.
  • On December 28, 2024, he assaulted a woman walking with her two young children in Bradford, striking her face and causing her to fall while holding a pushchair. She experienced sharp pain in her jaw and temporary hearing loss, with no idea why she was targeted. Wally-Sanneh later claimed he was drunk and had inadvertently hit her while waving his arms.
  • On January 28, 2025, he racially aggravated common assault on another woman walking with her children, verbally abusing her as a 'dirty little white b******,' leaving her fearing physical assault.
  • On February 11, 2025, he assaulted a 73-year-old woman by kicking her to the head as she walked through Bradford city centre, leaving her bewildered and shocked but uninjured.
  • On February 13, 2025, during his arrest, he racially aggravated harassed a police officer by calling him 'a white b****** son-of-a-b****.'

Recorder Andrew Walker KC sentenced Wally-Sanneh, of no fixed abode in Bradford, to a total of 48 weeks' imprisonment, noting that due to time already served, his release was likely imminent. The judge did not revoke an existing two-year community order from August 2024, which had been breached by most of the offences. Wally-Sanneh was also ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years. The court acknowledged an element of his mental disorder in the offending, and he had prior convictions for battery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
