Offence Summary

Gary Wilson was jailed for seven years after being found guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl over five years nearly two decades ago, and for possessing indecent images and extreme pornography.

Full Description

Gary Wilson, a 56-year-old man from Turnditch, Derbyshire, was sentenced to seven years in prison at Lincoln Crown Court on 15 December 2025, following his conviction on multiple counts of child sexual abuse committed almost two decades earlier.

The abuse began when the victim was just 11 years old. Wilson, who was in his late 30s at the time, subjected the girl to a sustained period of sexual exploitation lasting five years. The offences included five counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of sexual assault of a child, two counts of inciting a child into sexual activity, and two counts of taking indecent images of a child. These acts were carried out in secret, and the victim, now a woman in her late 20s, only disclosed the trauma to her parents in her early twenties before reporting it to the authorities.

Following the report, Derbyshire Police arrested Wilson at his home on Hill Close, Turnditch, Belper. During the search, officers discovered indecent images and extreme pornography on his devices, unrelated to the victim. He was charged with three counts of making indecent images and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image in addition to the historical abuse charges. Although Wilson initially denied the allegations and proceeded to trial, a jury at Lincoln Crown Court found him guilty on all eleven counts on 27 October 2025.

In addition to the seven-year custodial sentence, the judge imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Wilson to protect the public from further harm. The case was investigated by Derbyshire Police, highlighting their commitment to pursuing historical sexual abuse allegations. As reported by Derbyshire Live, the victim's courage in coming forward after so many years was instrumental in bringing Wilson to justice.
