Full Description

A 47-year-old man from Camberley has been sentenced to nine years in prison following his conviction for the sexual abuse of a child in Reading. Calvin Ayre, of Beechnut Drive, appeared at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 18 August 2024, after a thorough police investigation that led to his arrest on 14 October 2020 and subsequent charges on 9 April 2024.

The offences occurred between 2018 and 2019 and involved numerous incidents of abuse against a young girl. Following a seven-day trial at Reading Crown Court, Ayre was found guilty by a jury on three counts of sexual activity with a child by penetration and one count of inciting sexual activity with a child. Additionally, he was convicted of possession of a prohibited image of a child, making indecent photographs of a child (Class B), making indecent photographs of a child (Class C), and a series of acts tending and intended to pervert the course of justice.

Detective Constable Sam Haselgrove, of West Berkshire’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commented on the case: “This result is a testament to the strength of the victim and her unwavering support to the investigation. This sentence highlights our commitment to supporting those who have suffered abuse in their childhood, no matter when the offending took place, and bringing their abusers to justice.” The investigation was conducted by Thames Valley Police, underscoring their dedication to tackling child sexual abuse offences.

Ayre's conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the long-term pursuit of justice in such cases, with the court ensuring that the perpetrator faces significant consequences for his actions.
