Full Description

Andrew Wolverson, a 73-year-old former dentist from Northwich, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court for possessing indecent images of children while incarcerated at HMP Risley. The court appearance occurred via video link on a Friday, with Wolverson already serving a 32-month sentence for breaching his sexual harm prevention order through prior possession of similar hand-drawn images.

On 15 June, prison guards conducted a search on Wolverson and discovered a book containing an envelope with 40 explicit hand-drawn images depicting children being sexually abused. Some images were annotated, labelling the children as aged eight and referring to them in a depraved sexual manner. A subsequent search of his cell uncovered another envelope with cutouts of children from newspapers and magazines, including one of a famous child that Wolverson described as 'pretty'. When questioned by officers, Wolverson admitted to possessing both the drawings and cutouts, stating that he found them 'sexually arousing'.

Prosecutor Jonathan Keane informed the court of Wolverson's extensive criminal history, comprising seven previous convictions for 33 offences, including prior sexual offences. Wolverson had been subject to a sexual harm prevention order and required to remain on the sex offenders register for life due to his earlier crimes. In his sentencing remarks, Mr Recorder Daniel Lister described Wolverson as a 'recidivist paedophile' who was 'drawing out his fantasies'.

The court imposed an additional 12 months' imprisonment, to be served consecutively with his existing term. Wolverson will continue to be bound by the sexual harm prevention order and remain on the sex offenders register for life. The case was reported by the Warrington Guardian, with details sourced from the court proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court.
