Full Description

A 22-year-old man from Leicester, Henri Pinney, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for committing sex offences against numerous boys by impersonating teenage girls online. Pinney, residing on Wynfield Road, created multiple fake social media accounts using female names such as Chelsea and Courtney, along with stolen images from the internet to deceive his victims.

The offences occurred between the start of 2015 and the end of 2017. Pinney targeted boys aged between 10 and 17, initiating contact through these profiles and coercing them into sending indecent photographs of themselves. He faced 40 charges, including making indecent photographs and causing a child to engage in sexual activity, all of which he denied during the trial at Leicester Crown Court.

Although the indictment listed 27 child victims, Leicestershire Police investigations revealed that over 60 boys had sent indecent images to Pinney's accounts, with an additional 40 believed to still be unidentified. Detective Sergeant Jonathan Davies, head of the digital forensics unit at Leicestershire Police, described the scale of the operation as staggering, stating it surpassed some murder inquiries in complexity. He noted, 'The scale had to be seen to be believed - there were 565 million pages worth of data in his social media accounts.' Police further characterised Pinney's behaviour, saying he 'made grooming his life, this is what he did'.

During sentencing, Judge Ebraham Mooncey addressed the pervasive nature of such crimes in the digital age, remarking, 'It's a sad reality of the modern world where no matter how much supervision is done of youngsters this sort of activity is rife. All we can hope for is more vigilance and educating youngsters of the dangers that lurk out there and get the providers of those services to do more to protect youngsters.'

The case was reported by BBC News on 6 June 2018, highlighting the extensive police efforts in tracing victims and analysing digital evidence. This incident underscores the risks of online interactions for children and the importance of robust safeguarding measures on social media platforms.
