Offence Summary

Zain Ali was convicted of rape at ages 16-17 and sentenced to eight years' detention in a young offenders' institution.

Full Description

Zain Ali, known as Droopy, aged 20 from Buxton Street, Keighley, was convicted of raping the schoolgirl in the 2011-2012 Keighley exploitation case. Aged 16-17 during the offences, he received an eight-year detention sentence in a young offenders' institution for one count of rape.

Part of the 12-man gang led by Arif Choudhury, Ali participated in the Dalton Lane assaults. Judge Roger Thomas at Bradford Crown Court adjusted the sentence for his youth, following the trial's December conclusion.

West Yorkshire Police uncovered the organised rapes and abuse, with the judge decrying the group's demeaning view of the vulnerable victim.

The judge said this was an example of the “the vile practice of Arif arranging and facilitating the gang rape of the girl by having you men ‘line up’ to take turns.”
