Offence Summary

Fattah Derrahi, a 59-year-old chef from Hove, admitted to sexually assaulting nine women by groping them after offering 'Touching Therapy' while they exercised on Hove Lawns between 2021 and 2025.

Full Description

Fattah Derrahi, a 59-year-old head chef at a care home and British national residing on Farm Road in Hove, East Sussex, targeted young women exercising alone on the seafront at Hove Lawns in the early mornings. Over a five-year period from 2021 to 2025, Derrahi approached these women as they warmed down from their exercise sessions, complimenting them by saying they had 'good energy' before offering a so-called 'Touching Therapy' that involved groping them sexually.

The incidents, which involved nine separate victims who did not know each other, were reported to Sussex Police, prompting an investigation. Derrahi, described in court as a family man, was identified through CCTV images released in a public appeal by the force. Five of the victims positively identified him in an identification parade. The assaults typically occurred in the Hove Lawns area, a popular spot for morning exercisers along Brighton and Hove's seafront.

On 16th December 2024, at Lewes Crown Court in Hove, Derrahi appeared wearing a black polo shirt, glasses, and grey joggers. He confirmed his name before pleading guilty to nine counts of sexual assault, with two additional charges to be added later. Recorder Sarah Elliott KC addressed him, stating: 'You've pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in February. In the meantime, I remand you in custody.' Derrahi was remanded in custody pending his sentencing hearing scheduled for February 2025.

Sussex Police's Detective Inspector Sharon Ford commented on the case: 'I know these reports were concerning for the public, and I would like to thank everyone who came forward with information to support the investigation. We will continue to conduct proactive patrols in the area as part of our ongoing commitment to protecting women and girls in Brighton and Hove.' The case highlights ongoing efforts to address sexual offences in public spaces within the community.
