Offence Summary

Alan Russell filmed a female colleague in the women's toilets at their workplace in Huntingdon, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and was jailed for one year and six months.

Full Description

Alan Russell, a voyeur from Peterborough, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on 5 February 2024 after admitting to voyeurism and breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). The incident occurred in April 2024 at his workplace in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where Russell followed a female colleague into the women's toilets and filmed her without consent using his mobile phone.

CCTV footage captured Russell waiting outside the toilets until the victim entered a cubicle and closed the door, at which point he entered the facility while recording. This act directly violated the terms of a SHPO imposed by Lincolnshire Magistrates’ Court in July 2015, following his conviction for multiple voyeurism offences. The order explicitly prohibited him from entering female toilets, loitering within ten metres of any public toilet, or accessing rooms used by females as changing areas.

The breach was reported to management by the colleague herself in April 2024, leading to police involvement. Cambridgeshire Constabulary investigated the case, with PC Alex Neill stating: 'Despite his previous court order, Russell targeted his female colleague, filming her in a private setting without her consent. I can only imagine how violated the victim must have felt in a place where she should have felt safe. I would like to praise the victim for coming forwards so that Russell could be brought to justice, and I hope his sentence shows how seriously we take this kind of crime.'

Russell, residing on Princes Street in Peterborough, received a custodial sentence of one year and six months. The case underscores the ongoing enforcement of protective orders against repeat sexual offenders and highlights the importance of workplace vigilance in reporting suspicious behaviour.
