Offence Summary

Hassan Bockerie, a nightclub bouncer in Wolverhampton, targeted an intoxicated woman after her works Christmas party, bought her drinks, and later drove her to a flat in Birmingham where he raped her, abusing his position of trust.

Full Description

In December 2018, Hassan Bockerie, aged 34 from High Street, Erdington, and his colleague Iyoseph Derry, both working as doormen at a nightclub in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, exploited their roles to commit a serious sexual offence. The incident occurred after a woman in her 20s attended a works Christmas party and later visited the nightclub, where she became intoxicated.

The pair noticed the woman, who was with a friend, and deliberately bought her additional drinks to further impair her judgement. Just after 4am the following morning, Bockerie and Derry offered to drive the two women home, leveraging the trust typically afforded to bouncers for safe transport. They first dropped off the friend at her residence, but instead of taking the victim home, they drove her to a flat in Birmingham, where both men raped her.

Both perpetrators denied the allegations initially. Bockerie claimed no knowledge of the women involved. However, after three years of dedicated investigative work by the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit, including intelligence checks and forensic analysis, DNA evidence directly linked Bockerie to the crime. This compelling evidence forced him to alter his account. The case proceeded to trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

On Friday, as reported by UKNIP, Bockerie was found guilty of rape and sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison. The court highlighted how the men abused their position of trust, turning a night out into a harrowing ordeal for the victim. West Midlands Police emphasised the importance of the forensic breakthrough in securing justice, stating that officers were able to prove the actions through meticulous evidence gathering.
