Full Description

A 64-year-old man from Gosport, Hampshire, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences against a young girl, marking a significant victory for justice in child protection cases.

Stephen Street, of Aspengrove, Gosport, was found guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court following a nine-day trial. The offences occurred between 2021 and 2024 at an address in the town, where Street inflicted severe abuse on a girl under the age of 10. Jurors deliberated and returned guilty verdicts on seven counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13, one count of sexual assault by penetration of a girl under 13, one count of causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl under 13, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and one charge of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

The court remanded Street in custody immediately following the guilty verdicts, ensuring he would remain behind bars ahead of his sentencing hearing scheduled for 27 March 2026 at Portsmouth Crown Court. The case was heard under the jurisdiction of Hampshire Constabulary, the local police force responsible for investigating such serious crimes in the area.
