Offence Summary

Gary Mosedale, an HGV driver, engaged in sexual conversations with who he believed was a 13-year-old schoolgirl, instructing her to perform sex acts on herself, but was actually communicating with an adult decoy.

Full Description

Gary Mosedale, a 58-year-old HGV driver from Bridgwood Road, Blythe Bridge, was sentenced to four years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for his online sexual communications with a supposed minor.

The case came to light when Mosedale began conversing with an individual he thought was a 13-year-old girl, complimenting her by saying she was 'beautiful'. The interaction quickly escalated to WhatsApp, where Mosedale explained concepts such as orgasms and instructed the 'schoolgirl' to carry out sex acts on herself. Unbeknownst to him, the person on the other end was an adult operating as part of a sting operation.

Following the explicit exchanges, members of a hunter group arrived at Mosedale's home in Blythe Bridge, attempting to confront him. Mosedale tried to prevent them from entering, resulting in him injuring his back during the altercation. Staffordshire Police were involved in the investigation, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial.

During the court proceedings, the judge highlighted the predatory nature of Mosedale's actions, describing them as those of a 'pervert' who targeted vulnerable individuals online. Mosedale pleaded guilty to the charges related to sexual communication with a child. The sentencing in September 2025 underscored the court's commitment to protecting children from online grooming and exploitation.

  • Mosedale's messages included detailed instructions on sexual acts.
  • The decoy operation was crucial in exposing his intentions without involving an actual minor.
  • Police confirmed the communications occurred over several days, moving from initial contact to explicit content.
