Offence Summary

Rambo Baeram attempted to kidnap two women in Walsall by trying to force them into his car, assaulting them in the process, and sexually assaulting the second victim. He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.

Full Description

A man from Walsall has been sentenced to five years in prison after attempting to kidnap two women in separate attacks earlier this year. Rambo Baeram, 25, of Forrester Street, targeted a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl in incidents that involved assault and sexual assault, leaving the victims traumatised but able to escape.

On 28 February 2024, the first victim was walking along Scarborough Road in Walsall when Baeram grabbed her from behind and attempted to force her into his black Audi car. During the struggle, she was punched, sustaining facial injuries, but she managed to break free and seek help at a nearby home. Just a few days later, on 2 March 2024, the second attack occurred on Hawes Road shortly before 11pm. Baeram approached the 17-year-old girl and tried to coax her into his vehicle. When she refused, he assaulted her and carried out a sexual assault. She escaped and ran to a nearby home, activating her phone's emergency call feature to alert the police.

Investigators from West Midlands Police identified Baeram through CCTV footage showing the same black Audi involved in both incidents. He was arrested and, during interviews, claimed he did not own the vehicle at the time and was sleeping during the attacks. However, both victims positively identified him in a line-up. Baeram was charged with two counts of attempted kidnap, two counts of assault, and one count of sexual assault.

Following a trial where a jury found him guilty, Baeram was sentenced at court to five years' imprisonment and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. Sergeant Carrie Stimpson from the Public Protection Unit stated: "Baeram had no relationship to either of the victims - they were strangers, attacked on the streets when they should feel safe. These incidents were deeply concerning and we worked extremely hard to bring Baeram to justice. The women have been very brave throughout the whole process and were even forced to sit through a trial. I commend them for their courage." The case was reported by Hits Radio Birmingham on 20 November 2024.
