Offence Summary

Jie Xiang Guan was jailed for nine years for the horrific rape of a 19-year-old woman whom he picked up believing to be a taxi.

Full Description

Jie Xiang Guan, 39, a father of six from Colwyn Bay, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping a 19-year-old woman in October 2016. The victim, wearing Halloween face paint after a night out, got separated from friends and entered Guan's vehicle mistaking it for a taxi, only to be driven to an isolated spot at Rhos-on-Sea where she endured a degrading sexual assault culminating in rape and violence.

Guan admitted a sex assault but denied rape; however, a jury at Mold Crown Court found him unanimously guilty in February. Judge Mr Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones described the ordeal as every woman’s worst nightmare and ordered Guan to register as a sex offender for life. North Wales Police prosecuted the case, which involved DNA evidence linking Guan to the attack.

The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of stranger encounters and the justice system's response to violent sexual crimes.
