Offence Summary

Kabir Garg, a London psychiatrist lower in the chain of the dark web child abuse site The Annex, was sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in the network facilitating child sexual abuse material.

Full Description

Kabir Garg, a psychiatrist from London, was positioned further down the moderation hierarchy of The Annex, a dark web site with 90,000 members focused on extreme child sexual abuse material, including 'hurtcore' content. The platform operated during 2020, with Garg's role contributing to its maintenance alongside higher-ranking moderators like Nathan Bake and Martin Yates.

Garg was sentenced to six years in prison last summer, prior to the February 2024 proceedings against Yates at Lewes Crown Court. The site's American operator received a life sentence in the US in January. The National Crime Agency (NCA), working with international partners, targeted the group's moderators to dismantle the network that enabled global access to abusive content.

As noted by NCA Senior Investigating Officer Jen Cruickshank, such sites encourage sexual offences against children under the guise of dark web anonymity, but the agency's efforts ensure accountability for participants like Garg.
