Offence Summary

Dwayne Kesto, a paedophile from Birmingham, sexually assaulted two girls over several years, telling them the attacks were 'their secret' to maintain his abuse. He was convicted and jailed for 16 years after evading arrest for three years.

Full Description

Dwayne Kesto, a 40-year-old man from Harborne in Birmingham, was convicted of sexually assaulting two young girls over a number of years in a series of predatory attacks. Described as an 'evil rapist' and paedophile, Kesto manipulated his victims by insisting that the assaults were 'their secret', allowing him to continue his reign of terror unchecked until one of the girls bravely confided in a teacher.

The offences, which were non-recent, came to light after the disclosure, prompting police action. Kesto fled and went on the run for three years, evading capture until he was finally apprehended by West Midlands Police in March 2016. Following his arrest, a meticulous investigation was conducted, leading to an eight-day trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court where he was found guilty.

Sentencing took place at Birmingham Crown Court, where Kesto was handed a 16-year prison term. The court heard how Kesto's behaviour was calculated to silence his victims and perpetuate the abuse. Upon completion of his sentence, Kesto, originally from Jamaica, will face deportation.

Det Sgt Jayne Killoch, of West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit, commented on the case: 'Kesto told the girls it was their secret, so that he could continue his predatory behaviour. Kesto evaded arrest for three years, but we caught up with him in March and he was remanded into custody while a meticulous investigation was carried out.' The victims demonstrated remarkable courage by giving evidence in court, contributing to Kesto's conviction.

This case, reported by Birmingham Live on 10 August 2016, underscores the long-term impact of such crimes and the importance of reporting historical abuse. The investigation was handled by West Midlands Police, highlighting their commitment to pursuing sex offenders.
