A 26-year-old registered sex offender from Northampton has been returned to prison after breaching the strict conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Myles James Winfarrah was originally convicted in 2019 of sexual assault against a woman, leading to his placement on the Sex Offenders’ Register and the imposition of a SHPO upon his release from prison. The order required him to adhere to rigorous monitoring to protect the public.
In March 2024, Winfarrah violated his SHPO by engaging in sexual activity with an individual without notifying Northamptonshire Police of their name, address, and telephone number within the mandated seven days. He further breached the order by developing a relationship with the same woman without providing her details to authorities and by failing to report an address where he had stayed for more than 12 hours, knowing a child resided there. These actions demonstrated a deliberate disregard for the protective measures in place.
The breaches continued in September 2024 when Winfarrah failed to register at a police station within three days of his release from prison, as required. He was promptly arrested and charged with two counts of breaching his SHPO and two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements under the Sex Offenders Register.
Winfarrah appeared at Northampton Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to all charges in November 2024. He returned to the same court in December 2024 for sentencing, where Judge [name not specified] imposed a custodial sentence of one year and two months. This outcome underscores the robust enforcement of conditions on registered sex offenders.
Lead investigator PC Lauren Slinn from Northamptonshire Police’s Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) Team commented: “I hope this result provides some reassurance to our communities as to how closely registered sex offenders are managed and monitored when they are released from prison. Any breaches of their conditions will be dealt with robustly and we will always seek a return to prison in these cases.” PC Slinn further emphasised the team's commitment: “In the MOSOVO Team, we are all very passionate about what we do and we will continue working hard to ensure anyone like Myles Winfarrah who wilfully breaches the conditions set out to protect others, are sent to prison.”
