Offence Summary

Ramin Bari committed four counts of rape against two young girls in Rotherham as a member of a child grooming gang operating in the early 2000s.

Full Description

Ramin Bari, aged 37 from Batemoor Road in Sheffield, was found guilty in Operation Stovewood, the NCA-led investigation into Rotherham child sexual exploitation from 1997 to 2013, following the 2014 Jay Report on over 1,400 victims.

The trial at Sheffield Crown Court, lasting nine weeks, detailed how Bari and six others targeted two girls in care, aged 11 and 15, in the early 2000s. The gang used cars to transport them, providing cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, and money, before forcing sexual acts or rapes. Bari was convicted of four counts of rape.

One victim stated in court: "You took my childhood and innocence from me... I am your karma." She revealed: "My mum was screaming for help but no one helped." The prosecution read the second victim's words: "All I wanted was to be loved and part of a family."

Crown Prosecution Service's Zoe Becker termed the exploitation horrific: "Using drugs and alcohol, exploited them for their own sexual gratification." NCA's Stuart Cobb honoured the victims, calling the abusers cruel and manipulative with some of the worst offending.

Bari was jailed for nine years on 12 and 13 September 2024 at Sheffield Crown Court.
