Offence Summary

Kevyn Little possessed indecent images of children, including a nine-minute video of a child aged four to eight being abused, and engaged in online discussions with other paedophiles about sexually abusing children.

Full Description

Kevyn Little, a 60-year-old man from Pontypool, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court for possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography. The case came to light following intelligence received by police in early 2018, leading to a warrant being executed at his home on 12 April 2018.

Officers seized several devices from Little's address at The Bungalows, Varteg, Pontypool. Analysis revealed a total of 12 offensive images across two mobile phones. On a Samsung device, they found a nine-minute Category A video depicting the sexual abuse of a child estimated to be between four and eight years old. Additional images included three Category B and two Category C indecent images of children, along with two images of extreme pornography. A Huawei phone contained one Category B image and three Category C images.

Further investigation uncovered online conversations between Little and other individuals with similar interests. In September 2017, Little engaged in discussions about sexually abusing children. In one message, he boasted about his collection, stating: 'Got loads on my other PC. Vids as well. I'll get some made up for you.' He offered to share material with 'like-minded' paedophiles, including discussions on abusing children.

During his police interview, Little admitted to the chats and pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of extreme pornography depicting intercourse with a live animal and three counts of possession of indecent images of children. Prosecutor Byron Broadstock highlighted the severity of the material, noting the young age of the victims.

Defending barrister Claire Pickthall acknowledged Little's previous convictions but noted they were unrelated to this offence. She mentioned a long delay in bringing the case to court and expressed his remorse. Recorder Dyfed Llion Thomas condemned the acts, stating: 'These images are of children. Real children who are being abused, being raped and sexually assaulted. Children as young as maybe under eight years of age. They are disgusting descriptions of disgusting images. And you were looking at such images or watching such a video. It's said that you are remorseful and you apologise. So you should be.'

The sentencing occurred on 11 March 2021 at Cardiff Crown Court. Gwent Police led the investigation based on the intelligence and subsequent search.
