Offence Summary

Shershah Muslimyar raped a 16-year-old girl in Ramsgate after she asked for directions late at night.

Full Description

Shershah Muslimyar, aged 20 from Hovenden Close, Canterbury, was one of four men convicted at Canterbury Crown Court of the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Ramsgate, Kent. The assault took place in the early hours of 18 September 2016, after the victim, disoriented following a night out, sought directions from the group of men. Rather than providing help, they directed her to Tamin Rahmani's flat and carried out the attack.

The victim endured a harrowing ordeal before being ejected from the building and left distressed on the street. She was found by two individuals returning from their own night out, who offered her shelter and alerted Kent Police. The investigation, led by Detective Inspector Richard Vickery, utilised forensic evidence and CCTV to swiftly apprehend Muslimyar and his co-accused soon after the incident. Vickery highlighted the men's exploitation: 'They saw an opportunity to fulfil their depraved sexual desires and betrayed the trust she placed in them in the worst possible way.'

Muslimyar, along with Rafiullah Hamidy, Tamin Rahmani, and Hamid Mohamadi, denied the rape charges but were unanimously found guilty on Friday at the court. All have been remanded in custody as arrangements are made for sentencing, according to BBC reporting from 29 March 2017. The case underscores the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals seeking assistance late at night.
