Full Description

Arfan Mir, also known as Khalifa Mughal, 42, from Halifax, was found guilty of rape and supply of a class A drug against one of two girls aged 13 to 16, and perverting the course of justice against the other, in offences occurring in Calderdale between 2006 and 2009. The case stemmed from a 2016 investigation into child sexual exploitation and abuse by West Yorkshire Police.

During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, evidence revealed Mir's involvement in the sexual abuse and exploitation of the victims, contributing to a series of convictions that totalled 24 men jailed for over 219 years combined across four investigations.

Mir was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison, but following an appeal, this was reduced to 10 years. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith emphasised the impact of such crimes, noting, 'This is an abhorrent crime which has a lifelong impact on victims and survivors.'

The lifting of legal restrictions in 2025 allowed for the public release of these details, underscoring the police's dedication to prosecuting historical child sex offences.
