A 22-year-old man from Ilford has been sentenced to over five years in prison for a series of escalating sexual offences committed against women in a London park. Caise Bidounga, residing on St Andrews Road, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 9 July 2021, where he received a sentence of five-and-a-half years' imprisonment, along with three years on extended licence and lifelong registration on the Sex Offenders Register.
The offences occurred between 11 and 17 September 2020 in Roding Valley Park, Wanstead, an area within the London Borough of Redbridge. Bidounga targeted seven women aged between 18 and 42, beginning with acts of exposure and progressing to sexual assaults. On 17 September 2020 alone, he committed four of the offences, including the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman, which prompted an immediate police report.
One count of attempted rape Three counts of sexual assault Three counts of exposure Bidounga had pleaded guilty to all charges during an earlier court appearance on 18 December 2020 at the same court. Following the initial report on 17 September, detectives from the Metropolitan Police's East Area Command launched an investigation, identifying additional victims through witness appeals. Bidounga was arrested on 19 September 2020 and initially charged with one offence the next day, with the remaining six charges added on 24 October 2020.
Detective Sergeant Laura Martin, leading the investigation, commented on the case's severity: "Bidounga’s attacks were clearly escalating. Over the course of one week he went from exposing himself to a woman to actually sexually assaulting four women in one day." She emphasised the importance of reporting such incidents, noting, "This case demonstrates perfectly the need for offences such as this to be reported to police. Even if nobody is injured, sexual predators cannot be permitted to roam free posing a threat to women and girls." Although none of the victims sustained physical injuries, DS Martin acknowledged the long-lasting psychological impact, expressing gratitude to those who came forward and stating, "I have no doubt, that had they not come forward, Bidounga would have continued in his escalating pattern of offending."
The sentencing reflects the court's recognition of the predatory nature of Bidounga's actions and the ongoing risk he poses, as evidenced by the extended licence period and lifetime registration requirements. This case, reported by Yellow Advertiser on 14 July 2021, underscores the Metropolitan Police's commitment to tackling sexual offences in public spaces.
