Offence Summary

Muhammed Zahid joined his friend Riaz Muhammed at a Bristol guest house and raped a vulnerable woman while she was unconscious, as part of a planned sexual attack.

Full Description

In 2019, Muhammed Zahid, a 46-year-old man from St Phillips in Bristol, participated in the rape of a vulnerable woman at a guest house, acting in concert with his acquaintance Riaz Muhammed. Zahid was summoned to the location by Muhammed, who had earlier picked up the victim as a taxi driver and paid for her stay there. Taking advantage of the woman's unconsciousness, Zahid joined in the premeditated assault, committing the offence of rape against a woman over 16.

The crime occurred at the guest house in Bristol, and the details emerged during an eight-day trial at Bristol Crown Court, culminating in a unanimous guilty verdict on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. Evidence from Avon and Somerset Police outlined the coordinated nature of the attack, emphasising the absence of consent and the men's exploitative intent.

Zahid received an eight-year prison sentence following his conviction. Like his co-offender, he must serve two-thirds of the term in custody before release on licence. Investigating officers DC Laurence Castle and DC Saoirse Moore stated in a joint release that 'Muhammed and Zahid are calculating sexual predators who preyed on a vulnerable victim,' praising the jury for their thorough examination of the evidence and recognition of consent's vital role.

The case illustrates the profound impact of such predatory behaviour and the ongoing support provided by Avon and Somerset Police to the victim. It reinforces the message that acts of sexual violence will face stringent judicial response.
