Offence Summary

Shabaz Khokar, a 24-year-old man from Greenwich, was jailed for two years and five months after threatening to rape a teenage girl and encouraging her to self-harm.

Full Description

Shabaz Khokar, a 24-year-old man from Eastney Street in Greenwich, south London, was sentenced to two years and five months' imprisonment at court for offences including sending communications threatening serious harm and encouraging or assisting serious self-harm. Khokar's predatory actions targeted a teenage girl in Staffordshire, whom he threatened with rape and coerced into self-harm through persistent online messaging.

In August of the previous year, Staffordshire Police discovered that Khokar had been communicating with the teenage victim in their area. He explicitly threatened to rape her and sent screenshots of a train ticket he had booked to travel to her home. Upon arriving at Stafford train station, Khokar was apprehended by waiting officers. During his initial interview, he provided no comment to all questions and was subsequently released on strict bail conditions prohibiting any further communication with the victim.

Despite these conditions, Khokar violated the bail by continuing to message the girl, inciting her to self-harm and pressuring her to drop the case against him. This led to his re-arrest and charges for encouraging or assisting serious self-harm by another and sending threatening communications. The court proceedings underscored the manipulative and dangerous nature of his behaviour, which exploited the vulnerability of a minor.

The sentencing took place in January 2026, reflecting the severity of the threats and the ongoing risk Khokar posed. Staffordshire Police played a key role in the investigation, demonstrating effective cross-regional collaboration to protect the victim and bring the offender to justice.
