Full Description

Paul John Britton, a 56-year-old man from Walnut Close in Foulden near Swaffham, Norfolk, has been jailed for nine years following his conviction on nine counts of sexual assault against a teenage girl. The offences occurred between 2007 and 2010 in locations across Wirral and North Wales.

The case came to light when the victim reported the assaults to police in January 2018, prompting a detailed investigation by Merseyside Police. Britton was charged with the sexual assaults, which involved a teenage girl, and the matter proceeded to trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

On Thursday, 6 February 2025, Britton was convicted and sentenced to nine years' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. The court recognised the severity of the offences, which spanned several years and involved multiple incidents of sexual assault.

Detective Constable Kevin Thomas, who led the investigation, commented on the outcome: 'We are pleased that Britton has been robustly sentenced, following this detailed investigation. The victim in this case has shown immense courage in coming forward.' The investigation highlighted the challenges in prosecuting historical sexual offences but underscored the commitment of Merseyside Police to pursuing justice regardless of time elapsed.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of sexual assaults, with the offences having taken place over a three-year period in the late 2000s. Britton, originally from the Norfolk area, faced charges related to events in the Wirral peninsula and North Wales regions.
