Offence Summary

Elliot Robinson raped two teenagers in separate attacks and had previously received a police caution for raping a child.

Full Description

Elliot Robinson, of Walworth Avenue, South Shields, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court where he admitted two counts of rape. The court heard that Robinson attacked his first victim while she repeatedly said "no, no, no" and left her in tears. The second victim was so drunk she was "unable to walk unaided" when Robinson raped her. Both victims were left traumatised, and Judge Gavin Doig stated their lives were "seriously affected" by Robinson's actions.

The court was told that between the two offences, Robinson, then aged 16, had been given a police caution for rape and causing a child to engage in sexual activity in relation to a third victim. Judge Doig jailed Robinson for eight-and-a-half years and ordered that he must register as a sex offender for life. The judge paid tribute to the victims, noting that without their courage and co-operation with police, the offences would never have come to light.

In victim impact statements, the first victim said she lost what "should have been the best years of my life" because of the attack. The second victim described Robinson as a "predator" who used her vulnerable state to his advantage. She added that the time before he pleaded guilty was "torture" and stated: "I am glad he will be going to prison so he can't do this to anyone else but going to prison doesn't change what happened to me."

Josh Normanton, defending, told the court that Robinson has family support, is in a long-term relationship, has a good work ethic, and had been studying in London. References described Robinson as "hard working" and "kind," and the court heard he had shown remorse for the offences. Northumbria Police confirmed that as part of Robinson's caution, he was required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for one year and complete diversionary work with social services around sex and consent.
