A paedophile from Staffordshire has avoided immediate imprisonment after being caught in a sting operation targeting online predators. Fougo Humberto, 52, of Moor Street, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on 17 October 2024, following his arrest in April 2021 at Bush Hill Park station in Enfield, north London.
The case began when Humberto initiated online contact with what he believed were underage girls. Using decoy accounts managed by the online child activist group BMB Hunterz, Humberto sent inappropriate content to three separate profiles posing as 12- and 13-year-old girls. In his communications, he shared pornographic videos and made explicit suggestions, demonstrating a clear intent to engage in sexual activity with minors.
To the first decoy, a supposed 12-year-old girl, Humberto sent an inappropriate video and encouraged her to touch herself inappropriately. The second decoy, posing as a 13-year-old, received a pornographic video from him, accompanied by complimentary messages of a sexual nature. The third decoy, also claiming to be 12 years old, was sent another pornographic video. These interactions culminated in Humberto agreeing to meet one of the decoys at Bush Hill Park station on 16 April 2021, where he was arrested by members of the activist group and subsequently handed over to police. Despite the arrest occurring over three and a half years prior, sentencing was delayed until last Thursday.
Humberto pleaded guilty to two counts each of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to watch an image of sexual activity, and attempting to cause or incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. The court imposed a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, sparing him from immediate custody.
Detective Constable Zip Lloyd, involved in the case, commented: 'Although Fougo Humberto didn’t commit any contact offences, he still looked to potentially harm children so I am glad he has faced justice. The effects of child abuse on victims can be incredibly serious and we will always look to help bring the perpetrators to justice.' The investigation highlights the role of vigilante groups in supporting law enforcement efforts against online child exploitation, though official police action was key to the prosecution.
