Offence Summary

Abimbola Adetoye pleaded guilty to possessing child sex abuse images, including Category A material depicting penetrative and sadistic abuse of children, as well as extreme and prohibited images.

Full Description

At Basildon Crown Court on Friday, September 13, 2024, Abimbola Adetoye, a 32-year-old resident of Rokells, Basildon, entered a guilty plea to charges of possessing child sex abuse images. The court heard detailed accounts of the illicit materials found in his possession, which included three images and five videos classified as Category A, the most severe level, showing penetrative or sadistic abuse of children. Additionally, he admitted to holding four pictures and ten videos at Category B, and nine images and two videos at Category C.

Further to these child abuse materials, Adetoye pleaded guilty to possessing three extreme pornographic images involving sexual acts with animals, specifically dogs and cattle, along with one prohibited image of a child. The proceedings, reported by The Echo crime reporter Charles Thomson, took place during the weekly plea and trial preparation hearing (PTPH day) before Judge Shane Collery KC in Court 5.

During the hearing, it was noted that Adetoye is developmentally delayed, prompting the court to order mental health assessments to inform his upcoming sentencing. These assessments will provide crucial insights into his capacity and circumstances, potentially influencing the severity of the penalty. Sentencing has been scheduled for December 15, 2024, and Adetoye was granted unconditional bail until that date. The case underscores ongoing efforts by Essex Police to combat the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material in the region.
