Full Description

Oliver James Anglesmith, 37, from Scarborough, deliberately targeted children's chatrooms and Snapchat by posing as a young person to engage in sexual communication with children. The investigation began after concerned parents from another part of the country reported him targeting their child. North Yorkshire Police arrested him following the complaint.

Anglesmith pleaded guilty in May 2024 to four counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child and one charge of failing to comply with Sex Offenders Register notification requirements. At York Crown Court on February 14, 2025, he was sentenced to four years and four months in jail and issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his internet and device use.

The police investigation confirmed his predatory behaviour in online spaces frequented by children, resulting in comprehensive restrictions post-sentence.
