Offence Summary

Said Zakaria, known as 'Target', was convicted of multiple rapes, sexual activity with children, trafficking, and drug supply in a Bristol gang exploiting teens.

Full Description

Said Zakaria, 22, alias 'Target', was a prominent member of a 13-man Somali gang convicted of severe child sexual exploitation in Bristol, involving rape and prostitution of girls aged 13-17 from 2011 to 2013. He participated in both trials at Bristol Crown Court.

In the first trial, Zakaria admitted supplying cocaine and heroin, using a 16-year-old's flat for dealing and abuse. The second trial convicted him of two counts of rape, two of sexual activity with a child, and one of trafficking Girl A, including rapes at the Premier Inn hotel. Operation Brooke by Avon and Somerset Police used CCTV of him checking in and victim interviews.

  • Zakaria raped a 13-year-old three times in one night after an initial assault elsewhere, pinning her and ignoring her distress.
  • In police interview, he demeaned victims as 'dirty slags', claiming consent despite their ages.

Sentenced to 5 years initially, with additional time pending the second trial on 28 November 2014. Prosecutor Anna Vigars detailed the hotel horrors. DI Gary Stephens highlighted the victims' bravery against the gang's control.

The case, linked to national patterns, involved community assistance in the probe, with the Somali Forum condemning the cruelty and supporting victims' trauma recovery.
