Offence Summary

Celebrity osteopath Torben Stig Hersborg was jailed for three years and five months for voyeurism after secretly filming and photographing around 2,000 women over more than a decade in his clinic and public places.

Full Description

Torben Stig Hersborg, a 64-year-old Danish national and celebrity osteopath from Tower Hamlets, London, was sentenced to three years and five months' imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court after admitting eight counts of voyeurism involving thousands of images and videos of women taken without consent over 12 years.

Hersborg operated his clinic in Old Street, north-east London, where he set up secret cameras to film patients in intimate positions, abusing their trust. His activities extended beyond the clinic to public spaces, including beaches, footpaths, bus stops, Tube stations, and even inside women's homes. Devices seized by police contained thousands of photos and videos, including women undressing and two instances of couples having sex.

The crimes came to light in December 2023 when a member of the public reported seeing Hersborg in the back seat of his Lexus parked outside university accommodation in Islington, filming. Following his arrest, investigators uncovered the extensive collection, revealing the scale of his offending. Alex Weichselbaum from the Crown Prosecution Service described Hersborg as 'one of London’s most prolific voyeurs', stating: 'Hersborg operated in plain sight for too long and, having targeted thousands of women over 12 years, we believe the scale and significance of his offending makes him one of London’s most prolific voyeurs. His meticulously planned acts included setting up secret cameras in his clinic and covertly filming women – both in public and when they thought they were in the privacy of their own homes. Hersborg deliberately abused the trust of his unwitting patients by filming them in intimate positions and targeted strangers for his own sexual gratification.'

The court heard that Hersborg's actions were deliberate and sustained, targeting women for his sexual gratification. His admission to the charges followed the police discovery, leading to the custodial sentence in July 2024.
