Offence Summary

Jagtar Sahota repeatedly raped and indecently assaulted a teenage girl over a three-year period in the 1990s.

Full Description

Jagtar Sahota, a 65-year-old man from Leeds, was one of four men who sexually abused a vulnerable teenage girl in West Yorkshire between 1994 and 1997. The victim, who was a child at the time, endured a sustained campaign of rape and indecent assault that, she told the court, left her with lifelong trauma.

Sahota was convicted of 11 counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault against the same victim. The offences were committed when the girl was under 16, and the abuse had a profound and lasting impact on her. In a powerful statement read to Leeds Crown Court, the victim said: "I was so young, so vulnerable, and they knew exactly what they were doing. They didn't care that I was a child. They didn't care that I didn't understand. They used me, abused me then discarded me."

She added: "They took pieces of my soul, pieces of my body, pieces of me that I will never get back. They made sure I would never be the same again." The victim explained that the trauma had never ended and that everyday triggers could bring back the fear and memories. Sahota was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 29 April 2026 to 21 years in prison, reflecting the severity of his offending.
