Full Description

Mark Allgood, a 45-year-old man from March, Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping and indecently assaulting a teenage girl over 20 years ago. The offences occurred in Peterborough in 1999, when the victim was in her early teens. Allgood, who was in his early 20s at the time, exploited the trust he had built with the victim to carry out the sexual attacks.

The case came to light in 2018 when the victim reported the historic abuse to Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Following a thorough investigation, Allgood was charged with two counts of rape of a girl under 16 and one count of indecent assault of a girl under 14. He denied all charges and stood trial at Cambridge Crown Court. On May 30, 2022, a jury found him guilty of one count of rape and the indecent assault charge, but not guilty on the second rape count.

During the trial, it was revealed that Allgood had preyed on the vulnerability of the young girl after gaining her confidence. DC Tracey Beeson, the investigating officer from Cambridgeshire Police, commented on the case: 'Allgood gained the victim’s trust and then preyed on her in the most disgraceful way.' She praised the victim's courage in coming forward after so many years, noting that 'this case shows that time is not a barrier to prosecuting perpetrators of sexual offences.' The sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court marked a significant step in delivering justice for the survivor, who demonstrated remarkable bravery throughout the legal process.

Prior to this conviction, Allgood had a criminal history. In 2008, he was jailed for five and a half years at Peterborough Crown Court for offences including robbery, dangerous driving of stolen and personal vehicles, and driving without insurance or a licence. That incident involved Allgood crashing his car near the A141 in Huntingdon, assaulting a passer-by to steal her vehicle, and fleeing the scene. Allgood, formerly of Jobs Lane in March and with connections to Wisbech, now faces a lengthy period behind bars for his sexual crimes.
