Full Description

A jury at Burnley Crown Court took just three hours to convict Haroon Lorgat, 33, of Edith Street, Blackburn, of committing serious sexual offences against three children in East Lancashire. The trial, which lasted seven days, concluded on 12th June 2024, with Lorgat found guilty of rape and assault. The offences, though committed some years ago, were reported by the victims who demonstrated remarkable courage throughout the investigation and court proceedings.

Detective Constable Jason Wainwright of Lancashire Police commended the victims, stating: "I would like to commend the courage these three victims displayed in coming forward to report what Lorgat had done to them. It was clear from the evidence they gave the profound impact these crimes have had on them, despite the many years that have passed. They have demonstrated the upmost dignity throughout the investigation and court process." Wainwright further emphasised Lancashire Police's commitment to protecting vulnerable victims, adding: "Lancashire Police remains committed to protecting vulnerable victims of crime and we will do everything in our power to get perpetrators to face their consequences at court - no matter how long ago the offences were committed."

Following the guilty verdict, Lorgat was immediately placed on the Sex Offenders Register. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 12th July 2024, where the full extent of his punishment will be determined. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to address historical sexual abuse and ensure justice for child victims.
