Offence Summary

Sex offender David Landin was jailed for two years for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and possessing indecent images of children, after police found over 15,000 messages related to child sexual abuse on his phone.

Full Description

David Landin, a 60-year-old registered sex offender from Foxhall Road, Ipswich, was sentenced to two years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on 29 April 2026 for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and possession of indecent images of children.

Landin had previously been convicted in 2023 of attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, receiving a suspended sentence and a ten-year SHPO. He was arrested on 1 April 2026 after officers from Suffolk Constabulary discovered he was using an undeclared social media account, in direct violation of the order imposed to protect the public.

During a subsequent visit to his home, police seized his mobile phone and uncovered a significant quantity of illegal material. Officers found more than 15,000 messages linked to child sexual abuse, together with search histories and deleted messages relating to indecent images of children. Printed indecent images were also discovered hidden in his bedside drawers – these included three Category A images (the most serious), four Category B, and twelve Category C images.

Alice Barham of the Public Protection Unit at Suffolk Constabulary described Landin as "a disturbing individual with a clear interest in the sexual abuse of children". She stressed that court orders such as Sexual Harm Prevention Orders exist to safeguard the public and that the force’s specialist unit ensures offenders are closely monitored and adhere to imposed conditions. Barham added: "Accessing or downloading indecent images of children is not a victimless crime. Each image represents a child that has been abused. We will continue to bring those who possess and share such content to justice."

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered the destruction of Landin's mobile phone and imposed a revised indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He was charged the day after his arrest following a swift investigation by the Public Protection Unit.
