Full Description

Sean Duffin, a 46-year-old man of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 December 2024, following his conviction for serious sexual offences committed against a woman in Wirral.

The offences took place in July 2023 at an address in Wirral, Merseyside. Duffin was found guilty of rape, sexual assault, and non-fatal strangulation. Throughout the legal proceedings, he continually denied the allegations, forcing the victim to endure the trauma of reliving the events during the trial.

Presiding at the court, the judge imposed a custodial sentence of 12 years' imprisonment on Duffin. In addition to the prison term, he received a lifetime restraining order to protect the victim and was placed on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely. The sentencing reflects the gravity with which the courts treat such violent and sexual crimes.

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Robinson of Merseyside Police commented on the case, stating: 'Duffin continually denied what he did and put his victim through the trauma of having to relive the experience by way of a trial. While no sentence will repair the damage Duffin inflicted on his victim, I hope this conviction has secured some justice for her.' She praised the victim's courage and dignity throughout the investigation, emphasising the commitment of Merseyside Police to pursuing justice in cases of sexual abuse and violence.

The case was reported by the Wirral Globe, highlighting the incident's occurrence within the United Kingdom and the role of local authorities in addressing it. No further details on the specific address were disclosed in court proceedings to protect the victim's privacy.
