Full Description

A man from Worcester has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for a series of historic child sexual offences that occurred in 1992. Simon Clancy, aged 44 and previously residing on Teme Road, was convicted at Worcester Crown Court after a thorough investigation by West Mercia Police.

The offences, which took place over 28 years ago, involved three young boys, all under the age of 14 at the time. Clancy was found guilty by a jury of seven counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 and two counts of gross indecency with a boy under 14. The trial, which lasted two weeks, concluded on 10 December 2020, with the sentencing following on 11 March 2021.

West Mercia Police initially interviewed Clancy in April 2019 as part of their ongoing commitment to investigating historical sexual abuse cases. The force's determination to pursue justice, even after decades, was highlighted in a statement from Detective Constable Nerys Stevens, who said: 'I am pleased that the sentence reflects the severity of these crimes and hope this helps provide some closure to the victims of these horrific crimes.' She further praised the bravery of the victims, noting: 'The victims have all been extremely brave throughout the process in providing evidence during interviews and in court proceedings. Hopefully, this serves as a reminder and deterrent to offenders that we are absolutely committed to bringing those responsible for crimes to justice, even when it is some 10+ years later, like in this instance.'

In addition to the custodial sentence, Clancy has been placed on the sex offenders' register. This case underscores the long arm of the law in addressing child sexual exploitation, with West Mercia Police reaffirming their dedication to supporting victims and securing convictions regardless of the time elapsed since the offences.
