Offence Summary

Rebecca Kirton, in a relationship with her brother Darren Gibson, participated in the sexual abuse of multiple young girls befriended at events, receiving an additional sentence of 7 years 6 months after further victims reported the offences.

Full Description

Rebecca Kirton, alongside her brother and lover Darren Gibson, faced justice again this week for child sex offences that involved befriending and abusing young girls encountered at events where Gibson worked as a DJ. Their crimes, first exposed in 2024, involved taking the victims back to Gibson's home for assaults, either jointly or individually, revealing a deeply disturbing pattern of familial complicity in sexual exploitation.

Following the emergence of 12 additional victims, the court heard harrowing accounts of the lasting trauma inflicted. The siblings' actions were described as predatory, with Kirton actively participating in the grooming and abuse. One victim's statement labelled the pair as perpetrators of unimaginable harm, emphasising the betrayal of trust.

Sentencing occurred at a Yorkshire court, where Kirton was given an extra seven years and six months in prison, compounding her prior term. The judge highlighted the aggravating factor of the incestuous relationship and the number of victims, stating, 'Your involvement in these attacks on children is reprehensible and demands a substantial penalty.' West Yorkshire Police's investigation was pivotal, with officers noting, 'The bravery of these young women in speaking out has extended the reach of justice.' This case has prompted discussions on safeguarding at public events and the psychological dynamics of such abusive relationships. Kirton, like her brother, will be subject to strict post-release conditions.
