Offence Summary

Ex-soldier Duran Guscott was jailed for 13 years and 11 months for photographing himself sexually abusing underage girls on 33 occasions and possessing child abuse images, including bestiality material.

Full Description

Duran Guscott, a 38-year-old former soldier from Wakering Road in Shoeburyness, was sentenced to 13 years and 11 months in prison at Basildon Crown Court in September for numerous sexual offences against two underage girls. Guscott, who had moved from Jamaica to England at 18 and served 12 years in the Coldstream Guards, was convicted after the court learned he had photographed himself abusing the victims on 33 separate occasions. He also downloaded a child rape image and over 1,000 images depicting humans engaged in oral and penetrative sex with animals.

Sentencing Judge Samantha Cohen described Guscott as having 'an uncontrollable libido and a determined sexual interest in children', stating, 'You allowed your perverted sexual desires to run riot.' The Echo provided exclusive coverage of the hearing, the only media present. Essex Police's investigation uncovered the disturbing evidence on his devices, leading to his conviction for these child sex offences. The abuse occurred in Shoeburyness, part of south Essex.

Guscott's military background contrasted sharply with the severity of his crimes, which involved direct sexual exploitation of minors. The case underscores ongoing efforts to combat child sexual abuse in the region, with the combined sentences for south Essex paedophiles reaching 45 years.
