Levi Slack-Smith, a 21-year-old man from Southampton, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on 23 December 2025 for a series of violent and sexual offences committed against his former partner. The court heard that Slack-Smith engaged in a pattern of controlling and abusive behaviour, deliberately isolating the woman from her friends and family. He threatened to distribute intimate photographs of her to people she knew, made derogatory and aggressive comments, and escalated to physical and sexual violence when she attempted to end the relationship.
During their relationship, Slack-Smith raped the woman on multiple occasions. He also assaulted her repeatedly, including hitting and kicking her, and strangling her on several instances, one of which caused her to lose consciousness. These assaults were classified as five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH). Additionally, Slack-Smith had previously pleaded guilty to malicious communications and making threats to disclose private sexual photographs. His obsessive behaviour extended to disliking her independence, blaming her for his actions, and making statements such as 'I don't know why you do this to me' after physically attacking her, including kicking her down the stairs.
The victim provided a powerful statement in court, detailing the extent of the abuse: 'There are so many things Levi has said and done to me which shows he has no respect for women, or any human being at all. He raped me, beat me, spat at me, degraded and abused me in every possible way he could. He tried to destroy me and my life.' Following the trial, she expressed relief at the guilty verdict and her ability to rebuild her life, including returning to college.
In addition to the rape and assault charges, Slack-Smith was sentenced for a dangerous driving offence. On 13 February 2025, police pursued him in a vehicle with cloned plates near his home, where he reached speeds of up to 60 mph before being arrested. Judge Daniel Sawyer described the relationship as encompassing 'almost the entire range of abuse – sexual, violent and emotional abuse,' highlighting the severe psychological harm and the dangers of strangulation. Investigating officer PSI Rebecca Stevens from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary condemned Slack-Smith as a 'vile and reprehensible man' who showed no respect for women.
Slack-Smith was convicted following a trial on four counts of rape and the five ABH counts. The case was investigated by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, underscoring their commitment to addressing domestic and sexual violence.
