Offence Summary

Joshua Bhatti was involved in the section 18 assault, false imprisonment, and torture of one man in July 2024, and the section 18 assault of another in August 2024 in Huddersfield.

Full Description

Joshua Bhatti, aged 31 from Bradford Road, Huddersfield, contributed to the kidnap, false imprisonment, and brutal assaults on two men in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, during the summer of 2024. The initial attack began on 10 July 2024, when a local man was taken to a residence in Newsome, held captive, tortured with weapons, and assaulted repeatedly until he escaped on 16 July.

West Yorkshire Police launched enquiries on 17 July 2024 to piece together the events and apprehend those responsible. Bhatti pleaded guilty to section 18 assault and false imprisonment for the July offence, which involved extreme violence that traumatised the victim profoundly.

The follow-up incident on 7 August 2024 saw Bhatti and accomplices assault a man in his 20s at a Huddersfield address, causing grave head injuries. The victim fled through a window and was treated in hospital, prompting a swift police response and connection to the earlier case.

Bhatti was among those arrested shortly after the August event. Sentencing occurred on 19 January 2026 at Leeds Crown Court, where he was given 18 years' custody plus four years on licence. As per the police statement, DC Andy Buckingham noted: 'Both victims were seriously assaulted with weapons, including an iron in the August attack, and very much feared they could even be killed.' The proceedings underscored the group's shocking violence.
