Offence Summary

Luke Anderson was convicted of raping and sexually assaulting two women between 2015 and 2019, leading to an 18-year prison sentence and placement on the sex offenders register.

Full Description

Luke Anderson, a 33-year-old man previously from Halifax, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 10 November 2025 for a series of serious sexual offences committed against two women between 2015 and 2019. He was found guilty in August 2025 of five counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault following a trial that highlighted the prolonged abuse inflicted on his victims.

The case came to light when one of the victims, Emma Clarke, reported the offences to South Yorkshire Police in 2021, detailing an assault that occurred in 2015. Investigations revealed that Anderson had also abused another woman during the same period. The court heard evidence of the traumatic experiences endured by both survivors, who demonstrated remarkable courage in coming forward despite the fear and stigma associated with such crimes.

Anderson's sentencing to 18 years' imprisonment reflects the severity of his actions, as determined by the judiciary at Sheffield Crown Court. In addition to his custodial sentence, he was required to sign the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring post-release. Detective Sergeant Matthew Mellor, who led the investigation for South Yorkshire Police, commended the victims' bravery, stating that their reports had resulted in a dangerous offender being removed from society for nearly two decades.

The case underscores the challenges faced by survivors of sexual abuse, with Emma Clarke waiving her right to anonymity to encourage others to report similar incidents. Her statement emphasised overcoming shame and fear, noting, 'I was silenced for a long time... It took me years to build up the courage to speak up.' The second victim's anonymous statement echoed this sentiment, affirming the importance of support from police and loved ones in achieving justice.
