Offence Summary

Former Swindon teacher Chris Fox admitted to seven counts of sexual activity with three young boys aged between 13 and 15. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 7 for these offences.

Full Description

A former teacher from Swindon, Wiltshire, has pleaded guilty to multiple sexual offences against young boys, marking a shocking fall from grace for an educator once celebrated for his contributions to primary school education.

Chris Fox, aged 39 and residing on Hawthorne Avenue in Swindon, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Monday, April 13, where he admitted to seven counts of sexual activity involving three different boys, all aged between 13 and 15 at the time of the offences. The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred between April 1 and August 6, 2017, as well as further offences in 2021 and 2022. Fox, who had previously worked at Mountford Manor Primary School, Drove Road Primary School, and Lawn Manor Academy, denied three additional charges: inciting a child to engage in a sexual act, sexual communication with a child, and assault by sexual touching. Not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf for these counts.

The court has 14 days to consider Fox's guilty pleas, after which the remaining three charges are expected to be dropped if accepted. Sentencing for the admitted offences is scheduled for June 7 at the same court. In the interim, Fox has been released on bail with strict conditions prohibiting unsupervised contact with anyone under 16 and barring him from contacting the alleged victims. Immediately following his pleas, he was placed on the sex offenders register and the Disclosure and Barring Service list, effectively preventing him from working with children in the future. A pre-sentence report has been ordered to provide the court with further insights into his circumstances.

Judge Townsend addressed the gravity of the situation during the hearing, stating: 'He has pleaded guilty to sexual activity with all three complainants. That really shows the gravity of the situation.' The victims, who are now all over 18, retain lifelong anonymity as per legal protections for those involved in sexual offence cases.

Fox's admission contrasts sharply with his past accolades. In 2015, he was honoured at the Adver’s Teacher of the Year Awards for his work as a year five teacher at Mountford Manor Primary School, where he was recognised for introducing extracurricular activities. At the time, Fox remarked: 'This award is testament to the hard work of the pupils and it’s great to be recognised in this way.' The case was reported by the Salisbury Journal, drawing on details from the court proceedings and local news archives.
