Offence Summary

Balazs Uliczki was convicted of raping a woman multiple times and assault by penetration using a sex toy to degrade her during a campaign of sexual abuse involving violence. He was jailed for 11 years at Newport Crown Court.

Full Description

Balazs Uliczki, a 45-year-old Hungarian national residing in Risca, Wales, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a series of brutal sexual assaults against a woman. The offences, which involved vaginal and anal rape as well as the use of a vibrator to degrade his victim, were described by the judge as a campaign driven by Uliczki's own sexual desires.

The case came to trial at Newport Crown Court, where Uliczki was found guilty by a jury on six counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration. Despite denying all charges, the evidence presented led to his conviction. Prosecuting barrister Ieuan Bennett read out the victim's poignant impact statement during the proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, highlighting the profound trauma inflicted. The victim stated: 'I haven’t been able to move on with my life as I had to recall it all over again. I don’t think I’ll be able to trust another man. I lived my life in fear – I was so scared of him.' She further described her ongoing fear, noting: 'I was scared to leave my own home and I was always looking over my shoulder.'

Bennett explained that the vibrator was used in some offences specifically to degrade the victim, compounding the physical and emotional violence involved. Judge Celia Hughes, addressing Uliczki directly with the assistance of a Hungarian interpreter, condemned his actions: 'You used her for your own sexual desires. Your victim felt degraded and you raped her at your will.' The judge also pointed out Uliczki's complete lack of remorse and empathy, noting his prior conviction for harassment.

In addition to the 11-year custodial sentence, Uliczki was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and made subject to a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim for life. He was also required to pay a statutory victim surcharge upon release. Gwent Police released Uliczki's mugshot following the sentencing to highlight the case and deter similar offences. The article, reported by Iwan Gabe Davies for the South Wales Argus, underscores the severity of sexual violence in the community.
